Preparing for the Party:

We zoomed around the market investigating each shop for the right piñata. For those of you who don't know what a piñata is, it's a cardboard animal figure decorated with colorful tissue paper cut into strips. They are used in most spanish speaking countries for birthday parties and other important celebrations. The aim of the game is to smash the animal's stomach and let all the lollies stored inside it pour out. Although there is a trick to the game as you are blind folded and the animal sways on the rope it hangs from.
It is great fun and just so happens we are in a Spanish speaking country at the moment. Yay!! Anyway I found a great horse piñata and some lollies to stuff it with.
All I need now is some cake and candles!!

Smashing the Piñata:

As the rough stick thuds into the soft under belly of the horse it emits a high pitched creak and a low pitch groan. The string supporting it gets pulled taut against its will. Time and time again blows fall upon the horse, but this barely matters to the horse as he forces his body into submitting. We pass the stick along, each of us attempting to bring the stick hard into the piñata. Amber, Mum, Me, Dad ... we each do our best, each of us hoping that we will be the one to bring that horse down.
Then it's dad's turn. With an almighty swing the horses bones snap.. His luck's gone ... he's departed us, without a second thought.
With its consciousness departed, the lollies cascade down!!

Mums B-day:

"Ok Mum, let's get you blind folded up," I said as I tied a sarong around mum's eyes. I spun her round, once, twice, three times until she was dizzy.
"Alright!" I yelled, and Mum sprang into action whacking and smacking, trying to break the dangling horse open. When her turn was over Zahn had a go. But he too didn't manage to break it. My turn was next. I swung the wooden bat round and round trying to find the silly horse. After about three or four whacks I found it and whacked the string out of its back. Dad was next and as I expected the horse didn't live for long. First his front legs came off, then his back, and before we knew it we were diving in to grab all the lollies!
RIP my delicious horsy friend!! :)
