So we have left the Dordogne region and headed for Cahors. Our first day in Cahors was spent marching up and down the steep streets of a small village called St Cirq Lapopie. It has been designated as the cutest village in France. I would not commit myself so fully but it did have majestic views of the Lot river winding below and of course that standard cathedral. Its step cobblestone streets were lined with little shops and restaurants. I give it 4 cute stars.

Next two days was Cahors. Cahors is a medium sized city surrounded by the Lot river and is known for its majestic bridge1 and its wine. Go right now to Trader Joe's and buy a bottle. We spent our time just wandering around and not doing anything of great importance except we had a big argument at the edge of the town square. It's Ok, I apologized and we made up. I am thinking of taking pictures of the hotel rooms and having people vote and the weirdest one. This one was fairly nice until they took all of our toilet paper away. Christy was very agitated until a guy doing laundry with no shirt on quickly rectified the problem and gave us a few rolls. Just in time too.

We had mixed emotions leaving France, one to stay on familiar territory and the other to see new places and strike out on our own. France is a country that seems to be run by a dictator. Not a dictator in the stereotypical Facist style of the history channel but of a fastidious dapper old lady. Instead of making decrees to invade other countries or to make the coal production increase she spends her time stamping documents about were and how big people's gardens should be, how the walkway should match the windows, and of course table décor. As a result the country is tidy, relaxing and charming. Of course traveling is like seeing artwork you have no background knowledge of what so ever. Sitting in front of the painting going that one makes me feel uneasy and inspired. Passing through a country saying that one is charming without knowing that unemployment is 40%.

1 Of course we took a picture so take a look.

Collette
So, the photo album seems to be 'Collette Around the Globe'. How appropriate! Sorry I missed Cahors, but will take your advice and make a trip to Trader Joe's. Sorry you missed Paris. The L'Orangerie was great, but Giverny - magnifique! I've updated Mom's album with the latest photos, and I have some great ones to share when you get home.

Collette
We just can't see too much of beautiful Collette...and now and then her smile (or something) reminds me of Quinn....definitely a family resemblance there. Your observations are very insightful - keep them coming...
