I have booked a boat trip to different islands ending Flores. I just heard great things about it, dolphins swimming next to your boat, great sealife on different snorkling spots. It was not the best trip ever, some of the other passengers thought it was one of their worst. But after all its was a nice adventure meeting some new people.
The first day was picking up the passengers and buying all the needs for the trip. Actually there was nothing arranged jet, so through lombok we had to take some ice for cold drinks for the journey and some chickens, vegetables and fruit. Although the bus drive seats was actually made for dwarves the views riding through Lombok where amazing. Rice paddies everywhere, riding through the national jungle park. The streets where quite different from Bali, Lombok is way more poor then Bali. The most people dream here of buying a motorcycle one day. So traffic consists next to bemo busses and a couple of motorcycles also out of the horse cards.
Next was the boat, it floated and was pretty water tight for the sea water. The only problem we encountered was on  the first day, the gauges from the engine broke down, after a 4 hours check up we were ready to go on again (another waiting day...). Some of the passengers were told by their travell agencies that it almost never rains in that part opf indonesia. Travel agencies make lies all the time in order to sell another ticket, there is no chance of getting your money back afterwarts, so questioning before u get into something is really needed. In the night the captain won some time again, so we were on schedule again.
Really nice islands and amazing views all the way. One day their was a boat with locals on it waving that we had to come over their boat because they runned out og gasoline. Seemed like a pirate trick trying to rob some tourists. The crew filled two empty bottles of water and threw them over to the local boat. A little latyer they were on their way again.
The nights were sometimes a little rough, almost storming u were thrown from one side to another side of the deck. In komodo we were taken into the forest were there were no komodo dragons. Another trick to get money out of the tourists, the real komodo dragons we saw in komodo were laying in the shadow next to the restaurants waiting for the left overs from the guests. So in the end you can better visit only the restaurant and see some big ones then to have a one hour expensive trip in the forest and see only birds, deers, wild pigs and komodo shit. On Rinca (included in the komodo visit ticket) we made also a one hour trip. Here we saw some big dragons at the restaurant again, but also in the forest was hiding a komodo dragon for unawary tourists to pass by. So far they only eated one tourist from schwiss in 1996. He got lost from the group and a couple of days later they found some sun glasses and his camera, a little later komodo shit with finger human nails in it.. Next on this walk we saw a breeding komodo dragon. Unfortunately no buffalo's only their skulls on a rack in the village.
After four days on the water we arrived in Flores, there I took a flight with 3 danish travellers back towards Bali, prebooked for about 20.000 rupiahs scammed. Never book to far in advance and dont let them push you into buying something, thats what I have learned now. Adam from australia took a bus trip and we would see each other in Kuta the day after in the paddies bar. The bus must have broke down or delayed because we never saw him that night at paddies.
