After the greatest sleep in the world last night we had to leave Coffin Bay. The first stop was Port Lincoln which was really busy and we stopped to fill up on petrol and get a hot choc. The choc was great unfortunately though they didn't give any marshmallows which absolutely ruined it. Mum also told us about the horse Makybe Diva winning 3 Melb Cups which had a statue near where we parked.

Our plan was to get as close to Adelaide as possible so we were thinking about Port Augusta or Port Pirie. We stopped into a couple of the small towns on the east side of the Eyre Peninsula and they looked great for potential fishing but the weather is still windy with regular showers of rain so it wasn’t encouraging. We drove into Cowell for lunch and were hoping to catch a ferry across to the York Peninsula as shown on all the maps (cutting off 400kms), but they had told us in Port Lincoln that the ferry hadn’t been running for a couple of years. Mum really loved the old building we saw in Cowell so it’s a shame they don’t benefit from having the ferry terminal operating.

The next stop was Whyalla which seemed like just another big mining port/town. Not very attractive and only one boat in the yard of the Whyalla Yacht Club but it had o good lookout over the port, town harbor and metal works.

We got to Port Augusta where the Eyre Hwy joined up with the Stuart Hwy that we had headed north on 12 weeks ago. The "comment of the trip" was made by Daniel .."That was the longest scenic loop we have ever done"!!!  Mum thought she could keep going so we made it to Port Pirie still in between rain storms. The town was a bit nicer than we were expecting (much better than Whyalla). We settled in to our powered site in the town (the free camps on the highway were looking a bit lonely and empty). The main consideration is that we can make Goolwa Beach (4hrs away) where Sutherlands are at their holiday house in time for the start of the match tomorrow afternoon…GRAND FINAL Geelong vs Collingwood…..GO CATS!!!!
