Going by land on a bus from Kolkata India to Dhaka Bangladesh is cheap (10 dollars) but NOT a piece of cake! It is probably the stupidest experience ever! It should take about 10 hours from Kolkata to Dhaka but at the border you are usually stuck for a good 3 hours, so its about 14 hours altogether. You have to go to many dilapidated government buildings, get harassed by money exchangers and you also get harassed by the border officials if you are traveling with a male- they kept asking if Patrick and I were married. Patrick replied by saying "its none of your business!!" Things that seem simple take forever and there are too many steps and too many people employed. And to end it all off you get way to many stamps! Its the lamest experience ever and the most frustrating because efficiency is not a word out here!
