Where I stayed
Beside Nina on the edge of a field in the snow

Today we left Munich. We were going to stay at another Couch Surfer Tom's house (where Nina was parked) for one night and leave on Saturday, but the sun was shining and bad weather was forecast for the next few days after so we though we would make the most of the sunshine and try to get to Vienna. We walked from Julia's to Tom's with all our stuff, loaded Nina up and went to pick up the waterproof, thermal, blah, blah, blah ugly suits we had ordered from a motorbike shop. We then dropped in to Liviu's house to pick up the intercom system he had offered to sell us. He mad us a coffee and showed us his apartment, Felix nearly wet himself when he saw Liviu's workshop.

By the time we actually got going it was well dark. It's such a good feeling to be going somewhere, to be moving, I don't like travelling in the dark so much though. We must have started around seven to seven-thirty. It was so cold but we just kept going, the roads were dry and empty and it was just so good to be moving. At ten fifteen we crossed the German/Austrian border. Some long hours after this we began to notice very clearly the headlight was fading and the indicators weren't working so well. We passed through Linz and about fifty kilometres later the headlight was almost useless. We pulled into a small road and Felix made several attempts to find the problem and fix it. It was the alternator or battery that was not working and Felix couldn't find a solution so we set up a camp for the night. We were very snug and comfortable, even in the snow and howling wind, it was a very nice place -- under some trees, by a little stream and some fields.

I don't want to hear a single "I told you so."

No 'I told you so' from me! This is IT, isn't it? Isn't this exactly the kind of 'adventure' you envisaged? Oh, I'm vicariously loving every bit!! You look hilarious in that triangular-reflection photo, Floss - like a michelin man! And your camp looks sooo cozy, I can't quite believe you were warm there in the snow! Amazing, guys. And hilarious that you thought Felix was Phil - you know what they say about choosing a partner that's like your parents :-)
