Having left Kaikoura we travelled up to Picton and arrived at the port around 11.30am. We had the choice of either catching the ferry across to the North Island or to fly and with the difference being only 2$ extra to fly, Iīm sure itīs fairly obvious what we chose to do. After being collected from the ferry and driven to the small airstrip, we were on a little Cessna which sat around 12 people making our way very quickly (less than 30mins in the air) over to Wellington. The flight was fab, not only did it get us to Wellington 3.5 hours quicker than the boat but it was a scenic flight in itself. We made our way over īThe Sound` which was so picturesque even if it was a little bumpy as we werenīt exactly flying at any great height.

Arriving in Wellington, we checked into Nomads which we had expected to be one of the cheaper hostels, not only had they messed up our booking, it was damn expensive and the dorm we were in was fairly crap. With a bitter taste in our mouths we hit the shops and although Flis came back with only a pair of pumps and Henry with nothing, the walk around the city had certainly chilled us out and we saw Wellington to be a lovely city. We had also stopped off for a drink at the hostels bar which was next door and managed to get 2for1 on beer and a free glass of coke courtesy of the nice barman!

We returned to the hostel for a little bit and ended up hitting it off with German guy who was also in our dorm. A little later and we had returned to the bar next door to get a couple more 2for1īs on the beer and to also claim our free meal with the voucher we had been given at reception on check in. This was an absolute joke however, the free meal turned out to be two finger sized spring rolls and about 6 chips and a sprig of salad. There is photographic evidence to back this up!

A few beers later and unsuprisingly still starving we returned to the hostel to eat the leftovers we had from the night before in Kaikoura. The drinking continued again and we soon made our way out with this German guy to hit the town. After ending up in a somewhat hideous Karaoke bar we went to a club which was supposed to be a bit of a Rock hangout. In fact it seemed to be a rather smart winebar with a live band and most patrons being around 30-40. The night ended in KFC as the leftovers had also proven not to fill us up!
