Had a little later start today around 7:30am, but what a great day it was. The first 10 miles were climbing and at least it was cooler than yesterday. There were a lot more services also today.

My first big climb was call Big Hill Rd and after I was at the top I know why they called it that…..it went for about 2 miles but the grade was good like climbing the passes….just one pedal stroke at a time. Then in McKee I stopped for some ice and the gal behind the counter said she had lived there all her life and didn't think she could ever do what I’m doing I assured her she was young and in time if she really wanted to do anything she could……

Then I came closer into McKee and the Court Houses in these small towns always amaze me how large they are. I was resting my bike on the side of the Jackson County Bank and Ben opens the door where I was and started talking to me.. Ben was telling that they have a big drug problem and the court is always full……Then Woodrow came over to the door and we chatted for a while. Ben always has wanted to buy a bike but didn’t want to put out the money for one, he said someday he would like to do a journey like mine. I said he was young and could do it in his future.

Stopped and had my sandwich and then back to pedaling. As I was going up the final hill into Manchester I came across Willa as she was walking down the hill she commented how hot it was and boy she wished she had a bike, it would be better than walking to loose weight. So I stopped and we chatted awhile and she also was inspired by me and what I was doing, she told me about her kids, grandkids, boy friend all in just a few short minutes….I encouraged her to keep walking and watch what she was eating and she could loose the pounds needed….then I continued up as she went down walking….

As I came around the corner I saw a AT&T store and so I thought I would go check with then to see why my photos were not down loading from my iPhone to computer….Jesse greeted me as I walked in and asked how he could help and boy was it too hot to be riding bike today….I told him my story and he asked if he could have my email and take a photo with me and he was going to put this up on a website that would get lots of attention. He also has always wanted to come to Seattle and do more traveling and so I invited him dinner if and when he ever comes to Seattle. He had grown up in Kentucky and mostly in Clay County where we were.

Jesse and I talked for 30 minutes at least. He was interested in my passion of helping others and said that Clay County was probably the poorest county in the State.

Get to the Best Western and Ramona was there checking in and it was only 2pm, so that was cool because I was headed to meet Katy’s parents at the Red Bird Mission in Beverly, KY about 30 miles away…I helped unload the Van took a quick shower and left around 3pm for the mountains to meet Scott and Fran Woodworth…..What a delightful couple. I first met Fran the Executive Secretary to Mr. Collins the Director of the School. She and Scott had been there for the last 15 years and just love it..Scott and Fran introduced me to Tim, John, Michael, June, Norma all workers in the offices. Then Scott took me on a tour of the facilities. The school has 160 students they pay on a sliding scale, she said some pay very little, and that they do not turn anyone away. He also took me to the old church that they still use for services, it was beautiful and you can enjoy the photos. Fran said when we left that dinner was going to be at 5:30pm so to be sure and be back, we were back by 5:15pm and Fran locked up her office and we headed to dinner. There were about 106 camp workers that come from many different churches and places to help with community projects. It was great to see that this many people will volunteer there week totally for free to help others……I just loved it Scott introduced me to Dennis who coordinates the camp workers…..

They asked to stay the night and had a room all ready for me, very delightful and very generous to take me in…..Katy you are one luck gal to have such awesome parents, your dad and mom spoke very highly of you. I also met a lady from PA and Doug from Georgia, he is a Pastor at a Methodist Church in Covington, GA….He was also a cyclist and wanted to take a walk to go see my bikes…..so off we went,  Scott and Fran met me back over where the Van was parked. Doug was hit by a car 6 yrs ago and hasn’t ridden since but loves cyclists and was very impressed with what I was doing. He said a prayer before saying good bye with Scott, Fran and myself. He said I made his day…..

The last 2 days have been so special and the wonderful people that I came across were incredible, loving people……I would love to go back and volunteer for the Mission in the next few years…..I think it is rewarding to help others in any situation.

Rod I hope you know that you are my angel as well as I’m your angel, safe travels each day……and please connect with me and let me know how you are doing.

Thanks to everyone for your support and love & hugs to all…….Janessa & Dain I’m thinking of you and do not have cell service so not sure about Skype tomorrow for the wedding…….Congratulations and love you both.
