I got a little earlier start today as it was to be a long ride and the temps in the 90's......I woke at 4:30am and never went back to sleep so got up and got things going for my long hot day on the rode. I saw Anna leave for run from the Van and on her way back she stopped to say good bye. We exchanged addresses and hope to keep in touch, sweet lovely people....As i was leaving the Mammoth Cave National Park I saw 2 deers, the first just stood and watched me didn't run like they usually do, the next one ran right in front of me into the woods.

So as I'm pedaling outside of Cave city I see these Tee Pees and a couple sitting at a picnic table about to eat there breakfast. I asked if I could take a photo of there place and what exactly they had in side...Colin advised me just a bed and toilet. His gal friend or wife Angie said they were basic the place was called Sleep in a Wigwam......very cute especially for kids.

As I'm going to get on what I think is US 31W I stop at this fuel stop Love's and talked to Laurie and her sister-in law Dee from Ohio about the road and of course they didn't know because they were traveling also....Laurie asked me where I was riding and I told her my story and she was amazed one of my age and the other of how far I have already come....She asked about donations and if she could give and of course I said yes and she gave me a $10, They had just dropped off Laurie's daughter in Nashville to the Army......I Blessed both and thanked them for the donation.

I get into Rowletts and stop at another food/gas mart and was eating my banana and met a local cyclist Steve, he lives and works in Rowletts for the school as admin. we talked for about 30 minutes and he assured me that the drivers in this area were used to cyclists, he rode 29 miles this morning and I was already almost at 25 miles.....he wished me well and said he had to get back to work...Also said to get out early to beat the heat because it was going higher this next week higher 90's.......

So got back on the bike and came into SR 61 right turn and not knowing what was ahead i decided to stop at the pawn shop and see if they had water....JR came out and helped with the hose to fill my camel back....He was telling me a shorter route but said you might what to stay with what you have. I traveled about a mile and couldn't find the route 470 but in the corner of my eye saw a sign saying Bardstown so decided to take a left.....This is what JR was talking about....So I thought there a McDonald's right there why not enjoy a McFlurry so I did just that and boy did it taste good I had about 50 miles on the pedals at that point and felt I deserved it. When I get back home I know the sweets have to stop unless I'm going to keep riding 50-60 miles a day......

So now only 24 miles to Bardstown Yeah I think I can do all the miles today........my next stop was is Hogensville where Abe Lincoln was to have grown up, the town had a circle park with pretty flowers, statue of Abe and another statue of a little boy.....it was so beautiful. ˆthought I should get some sunscreen as it was pretty hot and it had been awhile since I had put any on. so I saw this pharmacy and went in and met Steve the owner of Smith Drug Co. and his assistant Annette...She as everyone does asked me how far I was traveling and I told her the story and he mouth just dropped and Steve was behind the drug counter filling precriptions and he looked and and neither could believe.  I think I'll have to start carrying my birth certificate......They were very nice and again I was off to pedal the last 20 miles.....The tail winds were nice and the hills were not bad at all.....

Next stop was in New haven at Hawleys Riverside Liqueur I needed some ice or water....I was getting low.....I went in and it was a bar Peggy was behind the counter and she gave me a few cups of ice which worked perfect. I really could of sat and had a cold beer which I like once in awhile when it is really hot and it was really hot by now....but being that I was feeling tired I thought it best not and wasn't a goof idea, so back on the bike.

I finally got into town of Bardstown , what a nice little town, I stopped a guy Mr. Starr to ask the directions to the Days Inn where the gals were staying, I had decided again to camp.....it really is quite nice with a cool evening breeze that comes through as I sit and type away at the blog and emails.....I made it to the motel by 3pm and then waited to get the Van....Our time changed today so we are now 3 hours ahead of Pacific Time....

I talked to Bill and found out that he had confirmed a couple of things for our Sept. 8th ECLBR Bike/Walk event.....what a relief to know that Brandy from Down Home Catering will Cater for us again this year and our new pit stop for the 65 mile route will be Enumclaw High School Parking lot. I can breath easier on those 2 items and check off my list.
