My morning started out meeting the nicest minister from Mobile, AL Leon Harris we sat out in the front of the motel in rocking chairs chatted for about 20 minutes. He said he has been a minister for 50 years. Enjoyed his wisdom and stories then I had to get on my bike, just a little past 7am, after getting the Van filled with gas and ice for the cooler.....As I got .3 miles into my ride and took the first left it was up hill for over a mile at about 10% grade, come on the first thing in the morning.....my didn't want to work but they did and I made it to the top and what a beautiful view. Also 2 pretty horses just standing there by the fence so 1 one posed for me and I caught my breath and started to pedal again. Then I came to a gravel road and I thought boy am I on the right road so I flagged down this truck Lynn was the guy and told me the gravel went for a couple of miles and it would come out on SR 259, so got back on my bike and boy the hills and the road were awful a little dangerous and so I was going to call the gals but didn't have service so couldn't. Then I stopped to take a picture of the pretty purple flowers I have been seeing each day and another guy in a truck comes along and asks me if I wanted a lift up this next hill and I said no and explained that I had already done the Rockies and that I was just taking a picture of the pretty flowers and he told me they were weeds and people try to kill them at all times. His name was Clayton. I finally got on the SR 259 and called the gals and said if you haven't started yet best go straight on SR 259.

SR 259 had no shoulder (as alot of the roads do not) and the traffic was terrible at about 15 miles I stopped and had my banana at a little post office in Bee Spring, KY Missy came out the door to load up her mail truck for her routes and started to talk to me and was so excited to me someone that was my age and doing what I was doing. Next her mother Barbara came out and started talking. Pretty soon a guy was coming to get his mail and started talking to me asking me where i was headed today and Misy came back out the door and told him excitely that I had biked all the way from the West Coast Oregon......he was impressed and the 3 of them we stood and talked for at least 30 minutes. Damon said I could take a different route than doing the SR259 which Missy says is a dangerous road as she drives about 87 miles a day on her routes and this is the worse road....in the county. So then they wanted my picture and I took theirs. They gave me a card to send back to them when I finish my trip. We hugged and then I left and took the KY Scenic Route which had a Ferry about a mile before getting to Mammoth Cave Hotel (where the gals were staying). Damon followed me to tell me that he had checked on the Ferry and it was running ( I guess sometimes it doesn't if the water is to low. That was really sweet of him, then MaryJane drove up with the Van and I told her about the other route that was less traffic and safer from what my new friends had said.

So off again I went and stopped and this small Market and picked up some power aide met Dana and her Dad Eric they asked me where I was traveling and wanted to know if I was part of the Van and I said yes and explained what I was doing, Eric handed me a donation for my cause $10 and were very impressed.....Eric thought I was about 45-50 yrs old, I could of hugged him right then and there. So I come to the Nolin Dam and took some photos and saw MaryJane again she did some video.....Thanks MaryJane for taking the time to do videos....

Now I'm biking in the Mammoth Cave National Park and it is cool and very beautiful, I was going up this one hill and 2 vans went by yelling out the window if you think this is bad wait till you get around the corner and they were right it kept going and going....then I had a great 2 mile down hill and signs saying Road end in the Water 2 miles, they were right the Ferry that only holds 2 vehicles at a time crosses continuously over the Green River, so i got on the Free Ferry and had another up hill for about a mile.

When I got to the hotel it was packed with people waiting to do the Cave Tours and as I was going in this family of 5 -3 children wanted to know if I rode my bike to the Park and I told them I had ridden it from the West Coast and the mother explained to the children how far it was, the youngest boy said thats a long way isn't it and I said yes it is.....I also talked to a couple from Ft. Collins, CO that were very interested and then it was time for there tour....Another couple asked me about my adventure they over heard me talking to the CO. couple Sally & Steve Brown from Colunbus, KY upper they talked to me until the gals came and took my card to send a donation...

I helped the gals get their luggage out of the Van and Erich and his family Marlene and Karissa Miller were here for the day and saw the WA License said he had relatives from Walla Walla. Erich talked to me for quite awhile and also asked where to send donation....Then it was off to Singing Hills Campground, about 5 miles away.....Where I was greeted by Eldon and he was very pleasant and showed me my site and gave me the papers of things to do while staying with them.....

What a great day everyone that I met today and everyday has been such delightful people. Kentucky is really a beautiful green and lusicous with trees and hills and communities that help one another......thats the best part for me....everyone helping another less fortunate.....
