Where I stayed
I was awake at 4am this morning and had a hard time going back to sleep, but finally did and the girls had already left the room for breakfast....One thing about these motels they all offer waffles, bagels, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee.....so we are saving big time on meals.
We got off on the road by 10am and the climb began before I got warmed up about 2 miles out and boy it just didn't seem like it was ever going to end.....you see some of the photos taken by Katy of us climbing. We started at 6757' and climbed to 9426', not bad for a couple of older ladies...we had a young gal pass us as we were climbing and also saw her go back down toward to Steamboat Springs.
Katy was not far away from us today, and we rested alot. When we got to the top Katy had our favorite lunch waiting spinch salad, chicken, tomatoes, peppers, celery, onions and chip with humus....Can't begin to tell you how great that tasted....So we get some warmer clothes on for what we thought would be a huge down hill....Oh how wrong we were it only went down for about 2 miles and we climbed for almost 11miles.....not fair at all.
The roads were really bad going down and then up again and down....we finally got to a point at almost 35 miles that we had no shoulder and the big semi-trucks, motorhomes had not room to move, we stopped a few times to wait for them to go by and then would get back on....It was so bad I said when we see Katy again we are in the van......it just was not safe to be there with no place to go. I also remember Neil a friend that was hit by a tractor in Germany on a bike trip, no shoulder and he had stopped and got ran over with the tractor. I may be a whim but I have a lot of living to do and don't want to take any chances out here to prove a point to cycle every mile.
We got the bikes on the rack and off we went to Granby. The motel is so cute on the outside as well as the inside, very clean and Joe the owner greeted me and he is very pleasant. Oh on the way into town we se out solo man cycling Guy and stopped to talk with him for a few minutes. He said he had spent a day in Steamboat and was taking it slow.
We were advised that the Maverick Grill was good place to eat so we showered and off we went. I'm feeling pretty tired tonight so will probably not be up much longer.....We got some donations in today 1 Team Phantom Rider and another from Odyssey friends. Total todate is $7233.16......
