Where I stayed
Great night sleep and lazy morning before leaving Tremonton, it was still cold so choose to leave around 10am and it was sunny and a little warmer. A friend said today that we will be thinking about these cold days when we get into the heat at 80-90 degrees....I'm sure of that.
We headed down South13 and then Hwy 89, going through the town of Brigham City, a pretty little town and very clean. We stopped in at Bert's cafe for a late breakfast around noon. We met Bert and he is the 3rd generation for this restaurant started in 1929.....The food was great and it was nice to meet Bert himself.... After getting our bellies full we went to hit the winds again, we were thinking about going all the way into Salt Lake City, but when you have side & head winds all day you get pretty tired and so we gave that idea up.....even though the last 5 miles the winds seem to cool down a bit. While eating my friend Jennifer called from Denver and said we could stay with her while there and I'll get to see Molly and Harley who I used to sit for when Jenn lived in Seattle.
The Mountains with their snow caps were so spectacular today with the clear blue skies and some puffy clouds. It actually warmed up to about 62 so we were finally able to take our tights off before the day ended. The day was also different today since there were a few small towns that we went through instead of just fields of crops to look at all day....
So we get into Ogden and decide to head south to find a place for the night, we were staying at the Good Sam campground until we found out that camping is more expensive than one would think. When I called for a spot for the Van and a tent I was told with the Good Sam discount $55 plus tax.....so we decided hey we might as well be comfortable and get a room for 3 for less. So we stopped at the Days Inn and were quoted $71 with tax and we thought that was high and Bill was in the Van scouting for something cheaper, so we waited awhile talked to Bill and he was still looking, in the meantime Jane went back into Days Inn to use the restrooms and asked if they could go lower and they did so here we are. You have to ask for all the discount you can think of and then hope for a good rate.
We got showered and then were hungry so went to Dee's Restaurant which has been in business for 70 years, it has a great story also. Heather was our waitress very nice, Jane and I though were not happy when at 5:30pm she told us no baked potatoes when we both were looking so forward to one. They fixed us both a baked potato in the microwave (ugh) but it did taste good.
I got to talk to my brother Monty and will see him and family in Colorado Springs in a few weeks. So much for Day 29 almost a month has gone by and I have traveled over 900 miles. Good night all......hope you all had a nice weekend.
