Rose of the North, and it is aptly named. The old city has moat and wall, to try and keep the pesky Burmese out. Chiang Mai is a much more chilled out place than Bangkok and a place you could easily spend lots of time in. Unfortunately the visa was slowly ticking away.

The first night we headed to the Chiang Mai food and tourism festival. There must have been over fifty food stalls offering a vast array of delicacies. There was also a regional dancing completion on the stage, all in traditional costume and music but the highlight was the Leo Girls.

After eating well a fella called Poo, you can't make it up, took us out drinking in Chiang Mai. Had a really good night, but probably a bit too much whiskey.

The next day we headed to the elephant santuary, to feed baby elephants, and look at all the good things the Thais are doing with elephants that have strayed onto landmines.
