14/1/12

Getting the fan belt is harder than you may think as it would seem that the West coast of South New Zealand is just as remote as spots in Mongolia, especially as far as infrastructure is concerned. There were complex plans involving buses and couriers, secret passwords and winks but eventually the campervan company sent someone with the belt from the other side of the Island. To pass the time we hung out in the hot pools…getting hot!

Once the Beagle was road worthy again we speed of to Arthur's Pass to have dinner but got there after 9pm by which time everything was shut, almost everything.  (Arthur’s Pass is a place of outstanding beauty, but it was pissing with rain and we did not see any of it, so it is not all perfect down here after all!) One lone hotel was opened and offered us bar snacks. Emma ordered chips, I had pie and potato wedges as I did not want to impose on Em’s meal. They should have warned us really that a potion of chips is 1 kilos! No one need 2kilo of potato in 1 meal.

15/1/12

Today we Drove to Methven and on the way saw some sassy cows, sexy sheep and some rather out of place reindeer. In the evening we revisited Catherin and Dave where we had home made rhubarb crumble. YUM YUM YUM!!!

16/1/12

Time to say farewell to the south island today as we fly to Wellington but we had just enough time to visit Akaroa, which is of course gorgeous! That evening we checked in to Jake and Alex’s friends we met in Vietnam.
