Jelly beans always tasted like pure sugar without any good flavor to it. Until Jelly Belly's came along! Sure they are a bit more expensive but they are so worth it!! They taste exactly like the flavors they are named after.

Apparently, Ronald Reagan was such a fan (possibly because they helped kick his smoking habit) that he always had them at the Oval Office and in Air Force One. Although Reagan's favorite flavor was licorice, the company came up with the blueberry flavored bean while he was running for presidency just so they could have red, white and blue beans for his inaugural parties! Our former President helped Jelly Belly's become a popular treat amongst world leaders.

I'm a fan of candy to begin with so a whole factory full of good candy is a dream come true. It's not the actual tour of the factory the intrigues me, it's what comes at the end of the tour! We did get to see artwork made from the different colored beans and learn a bit about the history of the company. We didn't actually see them make any beans in person but got to ride around in a trolley and see videos of the process.

When we finished the tour we sampled the beans and their other sweet treats. Yeah, they make more then jelly beans. They have a variety of chocolate and I believe they started out making candy corn. Who knew!?

As for the beans, we were told there is a total of 50 flavors. I'm not sure if their "other" flavors are inclusive of the 50 but there is a special bunch: boogers, centipedes, skunk spray, baby wipes, toothpaste, etc. YUCK! We bought a variety box each for our favorite nephew and nieces. In each box they have a good flavor and a nasty one. So there would be two of the same color, for instance white was either coconut or baby wipes.

All the sweet (and gross) treats were up for grabs! Well, there was a guy who stood behind the sample case to hand them out to us but you could try whatever you wanted. We bought a few things but we were also given sample bags to take home. The weather was great outside so before we left the premises, we had a lovely little picnic set up outside with my favorite jelly bean treats for dessert.
