The drive to the Outer Banks was about as long as the drive to Key West! While driving, we could actually see that we were finally leaving the smoke behind, from the wildfires. We arrived in Manteo at night so we didn't see much the first day. We woke up the next morning and walked around the cute town before driving to Fort Raleigh.

We had much more fun at the sand dunes over at Jockey's Ridge State Park. Steve and I wanted to take the cardboards and slide down but knowing how heavy we are, we knew we'd just be sitting there. We needed someone who was lighter...ROO!

Rusty is a total trooper and although it was hot, he was down for taking on the adventure. Steve pulled him with his front paws on the cardboard and he pushed off with his back legs. His experience in sledding was real helpful in the desert!

Steve was really interested in seeing the Wright Brothers Memorial, which also happens to be under the National Park system. We got to see most of the place but then they were about to close the parking area before we actually walked up to the memorial. We were told that we could park at the airport, which had about 4 parking spaces, and walk the area after the NP closed. So that's what we did. Rusty wasn't too excited about the place but I think Steve was re-visiting the idea of getting back in the cockpit and using his pilot's license.
