I found a decent ticket back to Hiroshima, with layovers in Tokyo so I flew back for a week.  I didn't have much time in Tokyo but saw two good friends going in and out of Japan.  Hiroshima was nice and relaxing.  My mom failed to tell me it was my Gramps 87th birthday but I flew in just in time...I suppose I should be keeping track of birthdays myself.  For his birthday, I got to see most of my Japanese family so that was really nice.

My mom came to pick me up at the airport and we went to Takehara to have okonomiyaki...DELISH!!  Takehara is a well preserved old town in Hiroshima prefecure.  After we ate, we strolled down the old street so I could take some pictures.

It takes about an hour and a half to drive to our house on the island.  Note to self...take the shinkansen b/c the station is closer then the airport...the air ticket was cheaper though this time around but I should have known better.  I spent a lot of time with my Gramps in the mornings and then had the rest of the day to putz around (actually I ended up rearranging half of the house and ran out of time to finish the rest!).

To maximize my time in being back in Japan, I filled up on food!  I ate yakiniku, matsutake dishes, ramen, strawberry shortcake, shabu shabu, etc!  We went to the grocery store a few times and I'm really looking forward to getting that box!

We also made sure to visit the onsen (hot spring) a few times.  There's one on island that hardly anyone goes to anymore, since there's a newer facility.  It's great b/c there's no one there and I can fully relax.

Family/friends, food and onsens are what I miss most about Japan...
