Tour today Undara Lava Tubes. Our adventure starts on the road on the way in with us stopping to view what we thought was a dead (Black Headed Python) snake on the road, the funny thing, when we were all standing around wondering how it had died as there were no visible tyre marks, was all of a sudden it rears up & tries to attack Joe our guide!! It would have looked so funny 15 or so adults simultaneously jumping backwards about a foot! Anyway fun over we head on to begin our walk around the rim of Kalkani Crater, part of the McBride volcanic province. Absolutely beautiful scenery with magnificent views for miles and miles. Our next stop was along a dirt track in the National Park down to where we had just viewed from the rim of the crater. This place is fantastic seemingly untouched and un-commercialised we go to 3 sections of the Lava tubes, which are basically tunnels formed underground when the lava has been flowing and gone under then come through the surface creating a cave-like entrance. We all had torches as no lighting has been installed & the walk down into the cave is just huge rocks. Once inside the most extraordinary colourings on the ceiling of the tube and some nursery areas for several bat species from the local area (some still in residence!)

On return to the caravan park Bill un-hitched the car to head back to the undercarriage car wash we had seen yesterday. Finally a chance to get rid of that William Creek mud!

A fantastic day followed by expertly cooked wood fired pizza's. I just wish this place was closer to home so we could visit again!!
