Pisa is a little out of the way in italy and I really tossed up about going as it was hard to work into the itinery. I also read on travel reviews that there was nothing in Pisa other than the Leaning Tower. We flew from Paris to Pisa in the evening and were up first thing to go to the Leaning Tower.
SOOOOOO GLAD we didn't miss this. The moment you see the whole square it feels like a miracle. So beautiful, the Cathedral, Baptistery and of course the Leaning Tower (or Bell tower). The kids were also very Hyped to see it which added to the amazing feeling of being there.
Kids under 8 are not allowed to climb the Tower so Charlie and I hung out at the bottom while the boys went to the top. They were waving like crazy so excitedly from the top. We joined hundreds of other tourists posing for photo's holding up the Tower (trying to think of more creative ways to pose).
It was heaps of fun
We jumped on a train to Florence and spent 5 hours in Florence before catching our train to Rome.
In Florence we walked through the main city centre to the Duomo, yet another amazingly beautiful church. We went to the main square with the replica of David (apparently exact) and Neptunes fountain, walked along the side of the Uffizi gallery which has statues outside of famous Florentines and other Italians that contributed to society. There were many street performers dressed as the statues. Then we saw the Ponte Vecchio bridge, very cute and unique. We crossed the bridge and caught a bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo which has a hill overlooking the view of Florence city.
Thanks for all your responses and comments, it's lovely to share this moment with you. When you're so far from home it's lovely to have that connection
