After a stop at Starbucks in the RonJon Surf Shop on Cocoa Beach, we backtracked toward Titusville to see the park. We thought this was another 2 in 1 visitor center for Cape Canaveral Seashore and Merritt Nature Preserve. We checked out all of the exhibits then walked along the boardwalk trying to see some wildlife. We didn't see any wildlife, but we did give the mosquitos a few pints of blood.

We decided to take the 6-mile nature drive before going back up to New Smyrna to get to the real Cape Canaveral park. As usual, we stopped a lot, took a lot of pictures and had many cars pass us as we took our time looking for birds, alligators, and such. The birds don't like Florida in July any more than most humans, and there were only a few around. We kept seeing large rings in the water where something had broken the water surface. I of course thought it was alligators, but we did see fish jumping out of the water, so that's probably what it was.

To get to the real Cape Canaveral park we had to go back to New Smyrna and then south along the coast. There was a shell mound in the park. The only one in Florida, I believe. It's really a trash pile from the ancient Indians who lived here, mostly a pile of shells - hence the name "shell mound". The mosquitos were bad here.

At the visitor center we saw a cool film on sea turtles. The park ranger was not really friendly. She was busy making dinner plans. We drove on down to the end of the park. That's where we went down to the beach and saw the turtle markers. There were several along the base of the dune.

When we went through New Smyrna again we stopped at Pappas World Famous Burgers. This time we had lunch. There was no sign or mention that this place had been featured on any TV show, so I just have to give up the idea that they were.
