Day 10 - Manchester

- Walked York Wall
- Cafe Concerto
- York Minster
- Drove to Manchester
- Manchester Library
- Simpsons Movie
- Stayed in Gareth's house in Didsbury
- Quiz night in the local pub

Angie was in foul mood this morning! She got no sleep last night because of the snoring chubster in the bunk opposite. I slept fine but then again, I got used to sleeping in dorms with loud snorers when I was in Australia. You can walk the parameter of the wall surrounding York so we did that. It finished at York minster and took about 1 hour to complete. We had a coffee in Cafe Concerto which is quite a good coffee shop wall-papered with classical sheet music.

We headed on down to Manchester which did not take long and explored the city a bit. Manchester city center is quite nice and I was a bit surprised about Manchester. It has a lot going for it. The IRA bombed Manchester many years ago and although it is terrible to say this but many people believe it was good for Manchester as they totally rejuvenated the city center. Manchester library is very impressive inside and is a great asset. We just don't have public libraries of that calibre in Ireland.

To kill sometime we went to see the Simpsons Movie which is no different to watching a regular episode but is feature length and the animation is slightly better. It is enjoyable but immediately forgettable.

I have a contact in Manchester called Gareth whom I met when I was in New Zealand. We kept in contact with each other even though we both don't really know each other and he put us up for the night in his house-share in Didsbury which is quite a posh area of Manchester. He lives in this massive 8-bedroom house and it feels a little bit like living in a hostel. It is a really cool house. We went down the pub as it was quiz night and the go there all the time. It was good to see Gareth again and find out about his travels after I met him in NZ.

I quite liked Manchester.
