Day 9 - York

- York Backpackers
- Golf ball shaped domes just outside [Harrogate]
- Few pubs on Micklegate Street
- Roman bath house
- Joric Viking village
- Snoring Chubster
- No sleep for Angie
- Aussie Cricket Team

This morning we left beautiful Cumbria destination York. On the way to York just outside Harrogate there are some strange golf ball shaped domes in a field that you can see from the main road. I decided to stop and have a closer look. The whole place was fenced off so I got up on a fence to take some photos with Angie's SLR. We sat back in the car and had some sandwiches when a police car pulled up and they said they had reports of someone taking photos. The female police officer did the talking while the other police officer checked out the car. She realised immediately that we were on holidays and was really happy to hear that we planned on seeing some of Wales as she was from Wales. It transpired that the golf ball shaped domes were in fact RAF listening stations and the whole area was a military base, hence the security.

Later in the afternoon we arrived in York checked into York Backpackers and had a brief look around. It was still raining outside so we went into a pub for dinner. York is a medieval town surrounded by a protective outer wall. York has influences from the Romans, Normans & Vikings. We went to visit a Roman bath house but it turned out just to be a museum and pub so we returned back to the hostel. York backpackers is a bit shit so we went out for a few pints in a number of pubs along Micklegate street. When we came back we got talking to a load of Aussies in the bar in the hostel who were from Perth. It was nice to talk to them about places we knew in WA.
