My main purpose for my visit was to catch-up with family and friends. I was home for 4 weeks and I got to see almost everybody I planned to see. This was great. My friend Mark got married and it was great to make it to his wedding. Angie was here for the last 10 days. She got to meet the rest of my Dad's side of the family.
Overall, it was a great 4 weeks to be home in Ireland. It felt a little long at times and we feel our lives are on hold at the moment but it is really worth spending this time to catch-up with people.
This travel-blog is almost complete. I will put up one more closing entry and end-date this blog.
It is weird walking down familiar streets in Dublin. I forgot how crowded it can be and the general hustle and bustle of everyday life here. Dublin is a very compact city in its center, and it feels like there are way more than 1 million people living here. There have been changes since I have been away, there have been many improvements aimed at promoting tourism here and making it easier for tourists to find there way around. Lots of new new signs indicating how to get to various tourist attractions. Also, lots of "free" walking tours. Bus information is now in real-time. Many bus stops now have information telling you exactly when buses are due. I think this is great. Bus Eireann services have also improved. For example, the Dublin to Athboy route now has buses every hour or every half hour and many of the buses are now double-deckers with free wifi. The roads have also improved a lot. It takes approx 20-25 minutes less time to go from Dublin to Athboy now. Dublin to Galway is only a 2 hr journey and there is a private bus company that will get you there for only €10.
