Berlin is going to be our new city. It is such a cool place, loads of young people and a feeling that anything is possible. It is cheap and not too hectic. We spent 3 days here and hired bikes to explore the city. Our main aim was to get a feel for the different parts of the city and decide what areas we would like to live in.
So far we like the following areas in this order:
- Prenzlauer Berg
- Friedrichshain
- Kreuzberg
We did some research into short-term apartments while we were here. I think this will be good for us as we can stay in an apartment fully furnished and with everything we need on a monthly basis. This means that we are not committing to a regular apartment which in Germany is typically unfurnished, no kitchen and minimum 3 months rent for a bond. A short-term apartment allows us to focus on getting jobs and then take our time to find a nice apartment in an area we like afterwards.
We are very excited about moving to Berlin! We also miss New Zealand terribly and want to go back.
