Our Greyhound from Olympia to Portland was delayed by an hour in traffic out of Tacoma. Got on the blower to Justus when we got into Portland and we were able to navigate to his place out on 45th and Hawthorne. Immediately, we had a good impression of Portland. The bus driver paid for our day ticket and a chap called Roo harped on about how Hawthorn is the real Portland. He was pretty keen for a beer with us in Mulligans : ).

Justus was our first friend in Wellington. We met him at a couch surfing pot luck. He was an excellent host and guide for Portland. The Portland Brewfest was on while we were there so we went down to sample a few brews. It was a bit too crowded to really get into it though. We also went to a Portland Timbers game. They were playing the Chivas from LA. They lost 1-0 against the run of play (when I root I root for the Timbers)

Portland has so much going on you might say there is almost too much going on

. I think it calms down a bit in winter time. There are so many cool bars, cafes, shops and restaurants just on Hawthorn! There was a street fair too over on Division where we saw an excellent 3 piece called Sneaking Out, the percussionist is awesome! They have been around for a while, I should look them up on You Tube.

Portland is a great city, we had a great time staying with Justus. Thanks for giving up your bed for us mate!

We have a flight out of Portland to SF. It would have been a 17 hour bus journey otherwise.
