The Kootenay region of BC is a wonderful kaleidoscope of mountains and water. We had awesome weather here too. Every day was a scorching 30C! Our journey begins as we traveled through Kootenay N.P. and stayed the night in Radium Hot Springs. We lazed in the hot pools for a while before camping up for the night. The next day was a cruisey drive through flat valleys surrounded by mountains. We stopped in Golden for a bite and then onwards to Revelstoke. Revelstoke is a fun little ski town with a really nice vibe to it. We stayed in a nice camp ground just out of town. This is where we met Brent and Maeve, a Canadian Irish couple whom we would bump into many times again along the road.

In Revelstoke there was a summer music festival with free music concerts every evening. We saw a good band from Golden called Will Horse. I bought a T-Shirt in support. One day we drove up Mt. Revelstoke as far as the snow line and then hiked the rest of the way to the top in the snow. It was cool to go from 30C in town to hiking in snow at the top of a mountain in t-shirt and shorts. We spent 2 nights in Revelstoke.

Kaslo is a cute little town just north of Nelson. It has a quirky wild west feel to the main street. We just hung out here for the night. There was a major landslide in Johnson's Landing not far from Kaslo that was dominating people's minds at the time. A number of houses got buried and 3 or 4 people died.

On the Friday 13th we arrived in Nelson. We were very curious about Nelson as this is where our friends Mike & Steph have chosen to settle. We arrived a day earlier than when they would return from a trip. We stayed in City campground 2nights and stayed with Mike and Steph for 2 nights. It was really cool to hang out with them and get to know their daughter Ruby and meet Steph's parents. They gave us the local experience in Nelson. Lovely town and a good size. Some very quickly characters living here. We did some hiking and kayaking on the lake while we were here.

We really enjoyed the Kootenay region heaps!
