On Monday evening we tried to organize transport East. We decided to combine Rinca (our opportunity to see Komodo dragons in the wild), with our boat journey back to Lombok. Unfortunately, there were no options other than local bus to Bajawa. We didn't exactly relish the idea but we could not afford to spend another day in LB given our new time constraints.

Tuesday morning, we arouse early and flagged down an ojek to take us to the bus terminal. After some discussion and considerable misunderstandings it seems that there is no bus terminal in Labuan Bajo. However, our ojek driver caught up with a local bus going to Bajawa and we were soon on our way. It was a 10 hr journey over dramatic mountainous landscapes, punctuated by soaring volcanoes. The road is in dire condition and winds like your small intestines. Again we met lots of interesting local people on the bus and we were once again transporting all sorts of produce (some of which moving) as well as many passengers. We eventually made it to Bajawa in the late evening. We asked if the bus could drop us off at LP's best pick hotel. This proved to be well outside Bajawa and there was no turning back once we got there. As is sometimes the case, LP's best pick is somewhat run down. It was the most expensive place we have stayed in so far at 250,000 IDR (23 EUR approx.). On the upside, the staff were friendly and it was on the road to Ende which is really handy for catching our bus eastward in the morning.

We just over-nighted here on our journey east.
