It was a relief to be leaving Bagan. We must have seen about 20-30 pagodas and started to get really bored of them. We did visit a village though and they showed us their handicrafts and we had some tea (and bought a longee).
Bagan was a 2 day pagoda marathon. After this we never want to see another pagoda again. It was another long drive from Mandalay on bad roads. We took the short route and had to cross 3 sand streams along the way. We stopped at Mt. Popa for an hour just before Bagan. Bagan is a sea of pagodas and is very beautiful. Unfortunately, many of the pagodas are plaqued with hawkers and it is impossible to get rid of them. One man who sold lacquerware was very friendly and invited us to his home the next evening for dinner. I agreed but later we were thinking that he was just going to try and sell us some lacquerware as it would have been impossible to refuse after a meal and meeting the whole family. That evening we explained to Zaw the situation and we disappeared into town for a couple of hours and Zaw got rid of the lacquerware man.
