Ko Phangnan is sooo much better than Ko Samui! It is totally chilled here and it is not over developed like Samui. We got ourselves over to Bhan Kai beach where there are bungalows for rent and it is very close to where the half-moon party is happening. Incidently, the half-moon party is in the woods further into the interior of the island while the full moon party is on the beach over in Hat Rin. We found a place called Moonflower to stay in which is run by 2 dutch people, what looks like a mother and son combo. They are nice but maybe a little strange. The place is great and we met a bunch of people there who were all going to the half-moon party.

We rented a bike and decided to head over to Hat Rin and check it out. I have been riding bikes here now for 3 days or so and am begining to get used to them. However, I was not prepared for the hills on the way to Hat Rin. They are so steep and the bike just wouldnt go up the hill with two of is on it. We got a bit of a fright when after dropping it down to 2nd gear and reved out to the max that we were about to cut out on the hill. I dropped down to first and the front just went up in the air and we slide off the back. We did some damage to the back of the bike but nothing serious. After this we decided to take the hills in first but on one hill Angie had to get off and walk up while I took the bike up.

Hat Rin is quite commercial but nothing like Samui and the beach is quite nice. You can rent jeeps, big motorbikes, quads, jet skis etc. here. We then got a bit disoriented and could not remember exactly where the bike was parked. Eventually we found it and got back to Bhan Kai and got ready fot the half-moon party. I headed down to 7-eleven and picked up a few Singa's and we hopped on a taxi around 11pm with 2 Swedes, 2 german girls, 2 canadians and an Aussie. The party itself was pretty cool and not so crazy. Sure there were lots of Thai guys there offering you drugs etc. We got a taxi back later with lots of drunk farang and the driver had quite some difficulty getting his money out of some of them. The half-moon party is good but we are not really ravers.
We spent the next day recovering from the party. Angie suffers terribly from hangovers even though we didnt get totally smashed. Everyone else cleared off the next day.

We got the 12:30 ferry to Chumpon the last day. Was very worried about the damage on the bike but amazingly the guy looked at it and said that it was okay and charged us nothing. I think we got off very lightly as there was a fair bit of damage on the back.

Ko Tao we decided to skip as we want to get up to Bangkok for the weekend market. Ko Tao is supposed to be really nice though. especially for diving / snorkeling.
