We have finally made it to Thailand, our third country. From Kota Bharu we got a public bus to the Thai border (Sungei Golok). Initially we were a little concerned about crossing at this point as there has been frequent bombings in the region because the southern most states in Thailand are Muslim and don't want to be part of Thailand. However, the organization involved claims to target police stations and other military targets. Having spoken with the hostel owner, he assured us that it is okay to cross there but don't hang about. The crossing was smooth but it was a little unerving to see all the Thai soldiers packing M16s.

The first thing you notice is dogs, Thailand has dogs and you suddenly become aware that there are very few in Malaysia. The food seems to be better also. Also thai time is 1 hour behind so we had an extra hour to kill before catching the train to Hat Yai. We decided to ride 3rd class and it was great. Super cheap and you can hang your head out the window. There is even a hot food service and beer. It is a pricey though. Now we have to get used to a new currency; baht. 1 baht is about 0.10 ringits and 0.02 euro. The 4 hour train journey cost 90 baht (1.80 euro). In Hat Yai we were herded to the mini bus center and took a "high speed" mini-bus to Krabi (about 4 hours). It is out of season here in Krabi but there is still lots to do and the guest houses are super cheap and very good quality. We are going to base ourselves here for the next few days and explore the region by motor bike (150 baht a day!!!)
