Where I stayed
West Chester KOA
Wednesday we decided to go to York, PA to the Harley Davidson Factory where we could actually tour the plant. We drove through Lancaster which is major Amish country. We left early so we could stop for breakfast at a Cracker Barrel in York. Then we headed for the HD factory. We had to wait a little while for a tour, so we browsed the gift shop & the showroom with new bikes. We were allowed to sit on the bikes, so we all tried our favorites. Then we went on the tour of the plant. We were actually on the floor of the plant & saw the assembly line process. It takes about 2 hours to put a bike together, but some parts are sub-assembled prior to the whole bike assembly. It was pretty cool to see the whole process. Couldn't take pictures on the floor, tho.
From there we went to Hersey, PA. We visited the museum first that told "The Chocolate Story". Milton Hersey was a very interesting man & built the company town of Hersey, making sure his employees were taken care of. The town still benefits greatly from the company. Then we went to the commercial side known as Chocolate World. We went on a ride that simulated the chocolate making process. All we could think of was....."it's a small world" as it was quite similar to the Disney ride! At the end we got our sample of chocolate & went on to the gift shop to buy the T-shirt.
