We settled in at the campground Tues afternoon. Got set up just in time because it poured the rest of the day. Parts of the campground were flooded. Luckily we were on higher ground. The campground was on a river. Wednesday morning was nice, so we took off for the New London Submarine base. We went to the Museum to see the USS Nautilus. It was a neat place & we even got to go down inside the sub itself. I sure don't know how the sailors could live in such cramped quarters. It was really interesting, tho. After the Nautilus tour we rode to Manchester (about an hour & a half ride!) just to have a late lunch at the Shady Glen Diner.
It had been featured on the Food Network for it's famous hamburgers. It was also an old fashioned soda fountain with great ice cream! It has been there 60 years and we met a lady who starting going there as a child & has been there everyday since. She is 71 now. The waitress confirmed this & added that sometimes she even comes in more than once a day. What a fun place!
