We divided the trip between Taxco and Puerto Escondido by staying in Acapulco for the night. We basically rolled into the traffic jammed city since our bus driver was struggling with a buggered clutch. After stalling about 20 times and blocking traffic, he gave up and politely asked everyone to get off on the side of the street and told us that we could catch a taxi. I thought that the taxi ride from Mexico City airport was crazy, this one topped that, especially since it was in a VW Beetle and there didn't seem to be much in the way of road rules. However, everything seems to work out really well on busy streets in Mexico, there is somehow a method to the madness amongst the beeping horns and swerving traffic. They usually beep the horn coming up to an intersection, so any other car knows when to stop, and there is some kind of mutual understanding between drivers that they could do anything at any one moment, so each driver is prepared for the unpredictable.

Anyway, Acapulco, we found a reasonable room in a hotel with a fan, which was necessary since the heat and humidity was up there. We didn't have time to have a really good look around since we caught an early bus the next morning, but what we saw was a beautiful bay and natural harbour. We had dinner and coronas on the water front and chatted to a few locals. I got asked if I wanted to go fishing the next day by several different punters, and Clare had street sellers hanging gold and silver necklaces in her face. We left early the next morning for the 8 hour bus ride to Puerto Escondido.
