Taxco

From Angangeuo we got three buses to Taxco the first silver mining town in North America. The first was a local bus with no suspension to Zitacuaro, then another to Toluca to connect to the last long and windy one with no aircon. Phew! Actually it was easier than it sounds if you dont count the missing suspension and aircon. I must say that the Mexican bus and metro system is excellent.

So Taxco was gorgeous all the buildings are white with red roofs and the streets are barely 1 car wide and home to a constant stream of combi's and blue and white VW beetle taxi's. The place is Jam packed with platerias (silver shops) and I came away with a couple of pairs of earrings (obviously this entry is being written by Clare - Rayonier HB & Tolan Fans would be up in arms if it wasn't) amazng craftsman ship that we simply don't see in NZ for $250 mexican. So pretty pleased.

When we arrived in the Zocalo some small mexican thrust silver bangles in my face literally while I was halfway out of the taxi. (I think I will get a T-shirt that says "no gracias" - they are persistant wee things I'll give them that!) about 10secs later we met Rufino the local tourist man who said the place we were planning to stay at was a crap and we should follow him. So we did, and our proposed room got cheaper and cheaper as we went. The first place was full, so to compensate he put us in the second place for mates rates $300 instead of $350. This may or may not have been true, but it makes a good yarn.

We only stayed one night - probably for the best as it was a very tempting town to spend money in. Alex got up early the next day and climbed the hill to take some pics.

Enjoy!
