Well, we landed in LA with a bit of a hiss and a roar. Plane was 2 1/2 hours late, and they insisted that we were going to miss our connecting flight to San Fran so booked us on one 3 hours later. Emigration decided they were a bit suspicious of me (Clare) and asked me a whole lot of extra questions that Alex didn't get, like was I going to Cuba and Venezuela? I must have looked like a trafficker....

Anyway we got through emigration and Security without a cavity search and arrived (very casually) at the gates to hear our original flight being called and people sprinting past us to board!!!!! So we could have made it pretty easy. stink. so we missed out on the San Francisco pillow fight.

Winny picked us up in a Zip Car that he rents by the hour (2009 Mazda 3) and took us back to his flat in the city. The next few hours after Winny picked us up involved a fair amount of drinking and hugging and reminiscing about calls so we will just skip over that. Sunday we went in to China town, Union Square, the apple store, Yerba Buena gardens and then took the subway to meet Sarah and Shane. Two of Alex's friends from his exchange who had come to San Fran from Lompoc and Santa Cruz specially to see Alex.
Monday was Presidents day and we met up with Sarah & Shane again. Winny's flatmate John took us to Napa, where we tasted some wine, ate another burger and saw an old faithful geyser. The wine pourer at the first vineyard we went to looked like a bit of a Frat boy and started quoting from the movie Old School after he heard Alex say 'it tastes good on my lips'.

The Old faithful geyser was a bit of a crack up it had a MASSIVE american flag as you drove in and charged us $8 each to see a little geyser that went off every 10 minutes or so and some fainting goats and four horned sheep. Apparently its a good thing we hadn't seen the Yellowstone park Old Faithful, otherwise we may have felt really let down. Entertaining times none the less.

Winny took us to a high rise bar with Natalie and a crazy chinese place with amazing food where the owner organised everything for us.
Who would have thought that we wouldhave spent the rest of the night watching west coast mining blast videos and listening to the boys reminisce about some more calls.

On Tuesday Winny had to go to work so for the first time we took ourselves around solo. We hung out down at Fishermans wharf and had clam chowder bread bowls.
We went super tourist and caught the tram through town and then accidently left the pride lands and got a little bit lost in the ghetto. Found our way back though and had a farewell burrito with winny before getting on the train to Albany, Oregon.

After a spectacularly scenic 16 hour train ride we have arrive in Albany where Alex is having extreme flashbacks from his year here as an exchange student. We are staying with one of his old host families and enjoying the slower pace after San Francisco.

Awesome, sounds like a pretty good start all in all. I really hope you got to see or be scared by the bushman in San Fran, and yes those chowder bowls are awesome..
Well, looking forward to catching up soon. Let us know what you want to do or us to organise for when you arrive. etc..
