Well i've been on the island now for 10 days, and it's been just what the doctor ordered!!!Most of those days have just blended together as 1, as i settled into the daily routine of doing nothing much. On some of the days i rented out a motorbike, (130 baht a day- $3)to get around the island and explore.
Yesterday i visited the wat that houses the mummified monk. Basically the monk was highly respected up to his old age, then he died in 1973 and was dressed in the traditional monks orange clothing, and placed in a glass case, where locals to this day come to pay their respects. Looking closely at the decomposed body of the monk is not for the faint hearted.

The last time i was on Samui was over 4 years ago, and nothing much has changed over that time apart from the huge increase in 'go-go bars' that now line the streets of Lamai and Chewang. (Some of which are are situated on almost deserted roads)
Each bar has about 5 Thai girls standing there in skimpy outfits shouting out "Heellllo ", or screaming "wooooooo" as you walk past. The bars that have music playing have the girls swinging around on a vertical pole, with the rest dancing by the pavements to try and tempt the holiday makers from going in.
It almost seems the 'norm' for a single weterner to pick a prostitute for their stay.
Prostitute is a harsh word to use, but what else would you call a young girl that lingers around on the street corners looking and screaming at rich western men(that are either usually old or ugly) to stay with them while their on the island, and pay for all their costs? Then once holiday maker leaves, the Thai girl returns to the 'go-go' bar to tout for more buisness. In a way i actually feel quite sorry for them, being put in a position to earn money from the old wealthy tourists in such a way. (not to mention the increased risks of catching untold sexual disease's)
Although all said, they do look quite happy, looking at it from the outside, as they swing around, shouting on the vertical dancing pole.

The weather over the last 10 days has been in it's high 20's with scattered/sunny intervals, which makes it bearable.
I stay on the Samui for another 6 days before chancing the boat ride back to mainland Thailand, where i will travel to Bangkok and then fly to Vietnam on the 8th December.
