Huacachina is a small village surrounding a lagoon in the desert that borders the large city of Ica. We had a day here before our 9:30 pm departure from Ica to Cusco. Here there is sand boarding, dune buggying and paddle boats in the lagoon. Being the cheap creatures that we are, we opted to hike up to the top of the dunes and then run down.
The desert seemed to go on forever. It was unreal. Itīs a great place to pretend you're Lawrence of Arabia or stranded in a downed plane in the middle of the Gobi, but with large bottles of beer and delicious cesar salads.
Our 18 hour bus ride to Cusco didn't end up begining until 10:30. Luckily we opted for the luxurious Cruz del Sur bus, which has seats that almost recline flat and a waitress that serves you airplane style food and beverages.
