Mostar was a very cool city tucked into the valley of high rocky mountains with a beautiful teal river running through the middle. The main attraction is the old bridge located in the old town center. It connected the east to the west side of the city. One side being made up of Catholics and the other side was the Muslim community. The house I was staying at was on the Muslim side. The man of the house was a Muslim and the woman was Catholic. It was not uncommon to have a mixed marriage. They were both great people and I really enjoyed their hospitality.

During the war in 1993 the city was almost completely demolished. One of the main targets was the "old bridge" and they succeeded blowing it to pieces in the river below. Since then it has been completely rebuilt the exact same way it was before and it is a beautiful site. All through out the city you can see buildings that were destroyed during the war with thousands of bullet holes scattered all over the sides of apartments, houses and stores. Mostar is struggling economically but the people still seemed very happy and are slowly recovering from the war. I think they will leave a lot of the damaged structures the way they are just so the war won't be forgotten.
