I have been here in Prague for 6 days now. I didn't really plan on staying this long but when I arrived I had a bad sore throat and a cough. Winter is definitely coming. The weather was beautiful in Ulm but the late nights at the various October Fests kinda caught up to me. I needed to leave Ulm to get some rest so my friends got on the computer and searched a German car pool website for me and found a lady who was going to Prague and was only asking for 25 euro. I thought this was a great idea considering the train was going to cost me 75 euro. We got in touch with the lady and she said she would be glad to have me along. She said I had to meet her at a specific tram stop at 6am on Tuesday morning so yes I had to wake up early while on vacation. This happens pretty often while trying to catch trains and buses and various tours. So I woke up at 5 grabbed my backpack and headed down the 5 flights of stairs leaving Nina's apartment on a cold dark morning in Germany. I found the tram I needed to take to the tram stop where I was supposed to meet Gabriela at 6 sharp...not a minute later! Of course I was about 10 minutes early and she was about 30 minutes late so I put my backpack down on the sidewalk and rested my head upon it wondering if she was really ever going to come and how long I was going to wait. I decided I would give her one hour since I had nothing else to do and I was already out and about anyway. Plus I was going to save quite a bit of money. She finally showed up and then the race was on! Haha I love when people are late and then haul ass to try and make up the time! We had one more passenger to pick up a hundred miles later in another town. His name was Estaban and he was from Chile. It was nice getting to speak Spanish and made me even more ready to get back to South America. He and I found a room with 2 twin beds and it was cheaper for us to share the room so we did. I told him I was a little sick and needed to rest so I laid up in the hostel a couple of days while he explored the city. Estaban left on Thursday so I needed to switch hostels because it would be cheaper for me to stay in a hostel with dormitory accommodations. I knew a girl named Kerri was also going to be in Prague and she told me where she was staying so I figured I would stay at the same place too. She has been traveling alone since March and she is from Boston. Her trip will end in November and she will return home to work and save again for her next trip. I noticed a flyer advertising bus tickets to Slovakia for only 9 euro! So this solved the problem of where to go next! I will be on my way to Bratislava, Slovakia today and I managed to talk Kerri into going as well. She has a train pass so she will be leaving a little later than I but we plan on meeting at a hostel in Bratislava sometime this evening. Bratislava and Vienna, Austria are the two closest capital cities in the world with only 39 miles between them. I am excited to see Slovakia and what it has to offer. Prague has been a beautiful city and I could easily see why it was called The Golden City when I stood in the middle of the central square with the sun going down behind my back I would stare at the beautiful cathedral and ancient buildings with their steeples and towers decorated with gold ornaments shining over the plaza. Prague is also a very clean city and has a great calm feeling. I am not positive this is why it is called "The Golden City" but this is what I observed.
