So I will just start from the beginning. 8am brings a mass exodus of people from the parking lot into the large conference room in golden valley. The temp in the room is approximately 82.6 degrees. Warm enough to make the bigger guys glisten and all of those women nearing the "change" running to get towels to wipe their brow. Sweaty people only make the awkward hugs even more awkward.
Fast forward thirty minutes and we are into the introductions. There are so many things that I learned during this hour...besides that the hour felt like four. Here are the highlights
1. There are many people getting married...a few to men, a few to women, many to the same sex
2. Steve talked for approximately ten minutes...it was supposed to be sixty seconds. The man is unreal but I think that by the end of the week I might get a lot of sympathy from others.
3. Our team is by far the most normal which doesn't set the bar very high.
4. Karen Weigman is as straggly and unkept as the curriculum she develops
Fast forward to the state of the union by MB. At least she is entertaining. I do think she is great but again I do not think that she has any type of realistic idea of what happens in the "trenches" sometimes. We do need to improve at things and that is okay.
Token lunch...with the instructions to sit with people you don't know. No thank you. We also get assigned "triads" of people that we have to get to know. Couldn't pick the two people that I was assigned out of a lineup. That's the mission for Tuesday.
The theme of the week apparently is "the possibilities are endless." MB did another good presentation of a book she read. It's enjoyable and it made you think. Nothing earth shattering but at least I was not at "depressed". Not curious by any means but at least nowhere near suicidal.
Then the happy hour. Now granted I feel like this is one place that I can excel in. We had some laughs...John is great because he is a joker...and just overall sarcastic and funny. Sure I could have stayed for hours and had a few more cocktails but the 38 mile drive home was a deterrent to that decision.
Everyone gets only $15 for dinners since all the other meals are taken care of...so Byrd was handing out list of restaurants which included KFC, McDonald's, and chipotle. There were not "big kid" restaurants even on the list. Any of the good places don't have drinks that cost much less than their stipend.
So it is 7:30 and we are starting our team day in approximately 12.5 hours. I can't wait to spend the day sitting even closer to Winston, doing more get to know you games, and pick up and mingle every ten minutes. Oh then don't forget bowling and team outing tomorrow night.
Back to my dinner of chocolate ice cream and Summer Shandy. Quite the life I lead!
