At 9 AM we departed the island by boat. When we got back to the mainland we boarded the bus and continued north a couple hours to Maroochydore. This was a great spot on the beach were met up with our surf team. They prepared us a BBQ. Next we suited up in our wet suits. This was quite a challenge since it was cold , windy, and had occasional rain drizzles.

While half the group took off in the boogie board group, I grabbed a surf board to join that group. Just walking the board in the wind with powerful gusts of breeze trying to knock me around was challenge enough. Despite living in south Florida and witnessing the beach and waves countless times in my life, I think that the waves that I saw today were the most monstrous. Big, white waves crashing in to shore.

We began with a tutorial on how to catch a wave. We walked the boards out and practiced hopping on and catching a wave while laying flat on the board. I caught a couple good ones and enjoyed some good rides in. Next we had a lesson back on the beach about how to attempt to stand up on the board. Again we made  our way out into the ocean and its forceful waves. I finally made it out quite a ways and I was sucking air trying to catch my journey. That is when one of the guides told me to get ready to ride a wave. I turned around, still gasping air, and saw a tall white wave heading rapidly for me. I was so tired I could barely even lay myself on the board. Flopping about, I still caught the wave. I was having a long smooth ride in, but I wanted to attempt to stand. Unfortunately I could only make it up to my knees before the wave slapped me off the board. I only tried a couple more times before spending the next hour sitting up on the beach.

At 4PM we arrived at the Sebel Resort. I was  blown away that this was a hotel for People to People. It was excellent. The best hotel on last year's trip was like an out house in comparison to this resort. My house was like a penthouse suite for an episode of MTV Cribs. I had full kitchen with granite tops, refrigerator and more. Two bedrooms,  two bathrooms and two living rooms. There was a huge outdoor patio was a terrific view of the ocean. In my master bathroom was my own jacuzzi with jets that I enjoyed with a great view of the ocean all from the comfort of my tub. After an Italian dinner in the evening I played some cards with our bus driver Bob and tour guide Stuart.
