Where I stayed
Mercure Paris la Defense
We started the day with a visit to the top of the Eiffel Tower. The tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel and built for the 1889 World's Fair to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the revolution. The tower is 889 feet tall.
As we arrived at the tower we were swarmed by people selling all kinds of Eiffel Tower trinkets. We made our way past them, although with less money than we came with, and boarded the elevators to the middle platform. I enjoyed fantastic panoramic views of the city.
Next we took a guided tour of Paris. Our tour guide boarded the bus and explained the buildings and history as we drove to see all of the important sites.
We made a stop at Luxembourg Park. It was a huge park with loads of activities for people of all ages. Here we visited a smaller version of the Statue of Liberty.
Next we visited the Arc de Triomphe. It was the world's first organzied roundabout. It was built to pay homage to Napoleon and his army.
The students were then given over two hours of free time on the Champs. I went off with the leaders. We passed and talked to comedian Sinbad. Then the leaders went for some drinks on this famous street.
