We began the day leaving the hotel at 9AM with a tour to the Plaza de Armas.  The Plaza de Armas is at the heart of the city and traces back to Pedro de Valdivia, the founder of the city, and the year 1541.  We viewed the Metropolitan Cathedral which is the fifth church to stand on the dame site since 1745.

Next we visited the presidential museum and watched the changing of the guard ceremony.

Later in the day we traveled to the Maipo Valley, one of Chile's best growing areas for wine.  It was a beautiful winery with fields of grapes with snow capped mountains in the background.  We took a tour of the facility.  Then we had cocktails outdoors in the beautiful weather.  We started with a cheese and meat plate.  After that was a delicious lunch.  All throughout we were served wine.  I tried carmenere, cabernet, chardonay and sauvignon blanc.  Each time I even took a sip someone came over to refill the glass.  Following lunch I took a walk along the vineyards and then laid out (passed out) on the grass and enjoyed the rays.

We arrived back to the hotel at 4PM and then our family took a taxi to visit the Pueblitas de los Dominicos.  It had over 200 little shops each run by local artists and craftsmen.  It was great!

Our tour is so high level that every hotel we go to and everyone we encounter speaks english.  However, today with the hiring of this taxi I finally got to use some spanish.  He didnīt speak any english so I communicated with him to get us there and to arrange for him to pick us up and we also used him later for dinner.  I also enjoyed using spanish at the market to communicate for my family.

We managed to enjoy an hour by the pool back at the hotel and then left for an 8:30PM reservation at Puerta Fuy, a seafood restaurant and one of Santiagoīs best overall restaurants.
