Cusco's main attraction is probably their Plaza de Armas (or city plaza). Most South American cities have one and usually contains some beautiful cathedral or municipal historical building. Rowena and I decide to walk around the plaza and the San Blas neighborhood of the city. San Blas is known for their artistic neighborhood, lined with small cafes and shops.
At the hostel, we run into two very cool dudes... Nik and Harsha. They both are medical doctors who studied a bit in Los Angeles (UCLA I believe) and were now relocating in Seattle (Nik) and San Francisco (Harsha). Nik was on his way to becoming a ER doctor (*wow*) and Harsha was to specialize in ophthalmology (medical surgeon for the eyes, *double wow*).
Later that night, Rowena, Nik, Harsha, and I head back to San Blas and try their local Pisco Sour brew. Nik, turns out, is there to meet his fiance and Harsha is doing one last hoorah before committing to a long term 4-year contract (with zero vacation) with a hospital. Yikes! While we got our drink on, Harsha brings up an interesting debate... what is more believable:
a) that intelligent life has visited planet Earth -or- b) that there are creatures like the Loch Ness monster that haven't been seen or documented? The debate ended up inconclusively of course.
Thanks guys for the great night and too bad we never hooked up on the way to Machu Picchu.
Wish you well on your upcoming wedding!
Thanks for the tip on the Racetrack Playa. Rowena and I will definitely put it on our things to see list.
