Post By Miranda Ewing

We arrived in California on Sunday, March 11th but were exhausted from our travels to the Grand Canyon so we decided to hang low for a day. By Tuesday the girls were ready to get out and see the beach, so I took my Mom's advice and we went to Coronado Island. Coronado is home to the iconic Hotel del Coronado, a National Historic Landmark. Hotel del Coronado has a rich and colorful heritage. It was frequented by Marilyn Monroe and Charles Lindburgh. Multiple movies have been filmed there and it is a place where state dinners have been held. The Hotel is of victorian style and it is gorgeous. The beach at Coronado is very well known and is supposed to be one of the nicest beaches in Cailifornia.

We found a great spot just down from the hotel and set out our picnic lunch. The beach was pretty, the sand was warm, and the water was beautiful. The girls had a great time building sand castles and putting their feet in the water. Its still too cold to swim but we had a great time anyway. Next time though, I think we will bring something to secure our food a little better. We have a history of animals stealing food from us (aka the zebra incident) so we should have known better. The seagulls kept attacking our lunch! We rolled up our bag of chips and set it aside while we were building sand castles and one ornery seagull managed to grab the bag and shake it hard enough for it to open. He spilled all of our chips out onto the ground! Not only was he crafty enough to get the chips open, but he was also one selfish little bird. Several other seagulls flew down to get in on the action but the ornery seagull started squawking and snapping at the others. He wasn't going to share one bit of his profits! I think California is going to turn out to be quite an adventure!
