Post By Miranda Ewing

Phoenix, the capital of Arizona and the sixth most populous city in the U.S. was much nicer than I expected. First of all, the weather was absolutely perfect. I'm sure that the summers here are quite miserable but March in Phoenix was a warm 80 degrees with just a slight breeze. Everything was green and flowers were blooming everywhere. I was especially impressed with the large traffic-free highways lined with palm trees and bright red plants. Im so used to traveling I-35 to Fort Worth, which is a smoggy parking lot most of the time so it was a pleasant change. The city is also surrounded by mountains which added to the pleasant scenery.

The first day we were here we drove across town and paid a visit to my Great Aunts Sylvia and Doris. It was so nice to see them since its been almost 7 years since I saw Aunt Doris and even longer for Aunt Sylvia. We sat on Sylvia's back porch all afternoon and shared family secrets while the girls played in the backyard. It really was a lovely afternoon. After we said our goodbyes we found a beautiful park on the way home and the girls played their little hearts out while I caught up on my phone calls. The next day Phoenix got more brownie points when we visited the huge Children's Museum. It was three floors of pure fun. First the girls conquered the large climbing structure that reached the third floor of the museum, then they threw on some smocks and painted a gigantic space ship! After they were covered in paint we explored the rest of the rooms which were filled with a make-believe grocery store, restaurant, ice cream shop, and even a tricycle car wash! Before we finished off the afternoon we found a large carpeted cylinder to climb in and read a book in the "quiet" area. Where was this kind of stuff when I was little??? Oh well, it was just as exciting for me to see them sooo happy!

One the third day in Phoenix the girls and I picked up our besties Pam and Kinley at the airport. They will be joining us for the next two weeks of our travels. We were very excited to have them back with us. When you're on vacation its the more the merrier! The rest of the time we spent in Phoenix was spent at the indoor pool and the frozen yogurt shop near our RV park. Yum! I was also finally able to try the In and Out Burger chain that Jason has always told me about. I have to say it was pretty tasty but to me tasted just like Sonic. : ) I think we will definitely have to visit Phoenix again someday and hopefully it will be less than 7 years before I make it back to see my Aunts!
