Post by Jason Ewing

What trip to the mountains, in winter, wouldn’t be complete
with out a little snow tubing!  We’ve
been promising the girls that we would take them to play in the snow since
December!  We went last year during
Christmas and had a blast, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to come
again.  Sarah is finally tall enough that
she can ride with us on the big kid chutes!
And her and Kinley rode down with us OVER and OVER again.  It’s amazing how fast they’ve grown up and
how adventurous they are.  Last year
Sarah didn’t even want to ride on the small hill and this year we couldn’t get
back up to the top fast enough!

Since Lily wasn’t old enough to ride on the big chutes the
three adults in the group took turns playing with her in the Kidz Corral.  Lily oddly enough treated the snow park the
same way she does water parks, and was perfectly content lounging around in the
tube while Mommy and Daddy pulled her around.
She did enjoy going down the kiddie slide and would wait patiently at
the bottom for Daddy to go and round her up.
But ultimately ended up abandoning the tube and decided it was more fun
to slide down on her rear end, followed by a snow angel victory dance at the
bottom of the hill.

Sarah and I were adventurous and tried going down chute 3,
which was all going great until we hit the wall and started spinning around. We
were BOTH dizzy after that one!  We also
got hit in the face with a huge pile of snow after my foot hit the embankment
and it fell over on us on the way down.
For a minute there I thought that Sarah was going to be upset but then
she let out a WEEEEEEEE That was fUnn!!!!

I MAY have instigated an ad-hoc snowball fight at the
bottom of the hill, when Sarah and I threw a pre-emptive strike at Kinley and Miranda
as they exited the chute.  I ended up
being the loser in that one when a rogue snowball thrown by none other than
Miranda R. Ewing ended up pegging my neck and falling slowly into the front and
back of my shirt.  The three layers of
clothing didn’t protect me there, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve for
payback.  For instance, our RV only has a
6 gallon water heater and if it’s accidentally shut off in the middle of a
shower, it gets cold really fast!  Pam
can vouch for this!

Sarah, Kinley, Miranda and Pam decided that 4 was better
than one and rode the giant tube down the chute.  I knew it was them because I could hear
Miranda Screaming all the way down the hill as she was the lucky one that went
down backwards and couldn’t see what was coming.  I took the opportunity to snap a photo, but a
video would have been much better.

Overall we had a great day out at the Winter Park, but knew
it was time to go home when none of us could feel our feet anymore!  We would of course recommend it to anyone
that visits Ruidoso – just don’t start a snowball fight unless you can take ice
cold water running down your back and stomach!
