Trip End
Apr 09, 2007
I smsed Helena the other day asking her, "Did we really go on a 3 month round the world trip? Because it feels like it was just a beautiful dream I had."
It's been over a month since we returned, and I've put off writing the final entry because then it's really over. I won't be writing from various net cafes around the world, or from my pda because my rtw2007 is over. It was a dream for the longest time - I didn't feel like I'd ever make it there.. and now that it's over.. I feel some how as if I dreamt it all.
I'd like to thank everyone who made the trip possible, and let us run amok in their homes.. the people who got us into the theme parks for free.. and of course Visa and Mastercard;) Without them it really would have been 2 mins noodles for breakfast lunch and dinner.
It's strange being home now. Having my car again. Not spending almost every minute of every day with Helena, and I know I speak for both of us when I say Thank God!. She was a great travel companion, and even though at times we got on each others nerves I know I wouldn't have had the great time I had without her. We walked away from the trip with so many in jokes - which are still cracking us up. Getting us strange looks from others.. but still cracking us up. I owe her a lot - and not just money.. although I owe her some of that too. We're still the best of friends - and it's taken about this long for us not to need to talk to each other every day. (It's every 2nd day).
When I got home, a virus ate my computer so I lost everything - I cannot tell you how glad I was I still had the photos on the camera, and on a dvd I had them burnt to in Japan. I'm going to go through over time and add some more pictures to my travel blog - which I know has been a bit picture light, but I'm going to rectify that.
Thank you for coming on this journey with me. I hope that one day I'll have another, longer journey to add to this one and you'll join me once again as I ride off into the sunset. If you get the chance to travel like I did grab it with both hands, you won't regret it - even if you do end up being served a pigs hoof in Hong Kong and dining at the 5 star pizza hut the next night.
So many memories, and so many dreams fulfilled. It was definately all about the people. The places were great, but to actually put faces to people I've been chatting with for the past few years - that was the real highlight of the trip. Well, that and walking across the nightingale floor - because that was just cool!
A note from Helena:
thank you all for looking after us on our travels. Sorry for not keeping in touch like i wanted to. i promise that i will write some emails soon. the people that we stayed with and met on our holiday really made it a special time. it would have been nowhere near as nice if we hadnt met you. i hope that i can see you all sometime again in the near future.
