Today we set out for Old Siam, or the Ancient City. A collection of shrines, temples, monuments and architecture from the birthplace of Thailand.  A short bus ride to the outskirts of Bangkok and a friend comes to pick us up and drive the rest of the way.   After arriving and renting a pair of bikes that seemed as ancient as the city we pedaled off, backpacks and cameras in tow.  Weaving our way past trams, carts and other cyclists, the city slowly began to reveal itself to us.  Traditional string and flute melodies drifted on the breeze as around every corner our eyes feasted on masterpieces of brick, stone, wood and sculpture.  Ranging from the very infancy of this country's origin to the more recent Thai dynasty, it was incredible to see the progression of style and the influence religion and culture played in creating these monuments.  At peace, we both felt it.  A wave of calmness and serenity.  Silence and awe at the sheer depth of human history presented before us.  It was a day for reflection.  Climbing the steps to the pinnacle of the city.  An ancient temple perched on a cliff overlooking the structures in the distance.  We felt minuscule and magnanimous at the same time.  A dichotomy of emotions.  There we sat, high above the scene below.  Peering off into the horizon, it was one of those moments you know you will never forget.  A rush of thoughts and memories flooded my mind.  Wishing the one who holds my heart could be here to share this with me.  Hoping someday she will.  We returned to the earth.  Slowly trailing each other back out of the city.  I feel blessed to have experienced that moment.  Take away all that I can and learn from the past.  Listen to my soul and still my mind for the change that wells up inside of me.  Renewed purpose and vision.  Life goes on.  I have faith in those I love to walk this path with me.  Someday I’ll tell my children about this moment and guide them to fulfill their own dreams and destinies.  It puts a smile on my face as we drive back.  Heart and mind at peace, I doze off in the car to let my subconscious wander.
