Day 5
This was the only day on the road that we did not visit any wineries ... hahah
We decided to do a stop over and visit the Naracoorte Caves National Park, since it was in the vicinity of where we were staying, en route back up north to Barossa Valley. It's the only World Heritage site in South Australia, so we figured that we ought not give it the miss. We visited the Victoria Fossil Cave, Blanche Cave and viewed live footages of the Bat Cave through infra-red cameras they have installed in the caves.
The discovery of the fossils of what was believed to be the pre-historic marsupials made big news and was documented on BBC many years ago (so I've read from the brochures). We got to see these fossils in Victoria Fossil Cave and some very nice limstone formations ...
An interesting morning, doing something different from what we have been doing over the past few days.
The drive to Barossa would be about 500km. Trust me, its a LONG drive and I was really tired after that. Good thing about have a big car was that it was really stable at high speeds and made the drive a whole lot easier.
Next up ... Barossa Valley!! :-)
